A simple checklist before you hire an IT training provider

Corporate IT training is easy to get wrong — paid for, attended, and forgotten within a month. This checklist helps you avoid that.

Ask what "done" looks like

Before booking, agree on the specific outcome — a skill your team can demonstrate, not just a certificate on the wall. If a provider can't describe what participants will be able to do differently afterward, that's a warning sign.

Check who's actually teaching

Ask whether the trainer currently does the work being taught, or only teaches it. Practitioners bring real examples and can answer questions a pure trainer often can't.

Match the format to your team

Mixed skill levels in one room is the most common reason corporate training underdelivers. Ask whether the provider will split groups or adjust pacing, rather than teaching to the middle and leaving half the room behind.

Plan for after the course ends

Skills fade fast without use. Decide before training starts how your team will actually apply what they learn in the following weeks — otherwise the investment quietly evaporates.
